Why laser teeth whitening at Dental Art?

How many of you heard the famous saying that teeth whitening damages the surface of teeth? When it comes to teeth whitening the facts are often wrong interpreted.

YOUR TEETH ARE LIKE SPONGE

The natural color of your teeth is predetermined since your birth. The teeth have pores just like the skin. Everything you insert in your mouth absorbs in those pores. Wine, coffee, cigarettes, blackberries, blueberries, green tea, as well as certain antibiotics are extremely active in the process of staining and tanning the teeth.
At same time, tanning of the teeth is a natural part of getting older. As the hair turns gray, so do the teeth tan.

TEETH WHITENING DOESN’T DAMAGE THE TEETH SURFACE

Whether and how you will whiten your teeth is completely your decision. However, there are certain facts that everyone must be familiar about before you decide to undergo a whitening treatment.
The most frequent statement is that teeth’s whitening damages the teeth. In fact, the damaging i.e. hypersensitivity after whitening treatment can be caused by the heating of teethes’ pulp. The heating causes hypersensitivity when you insert cold/hot groceries in the mouth cavity.

THE KEY TO SUCCESSFUL TEETH WHITENING IS THE MANNER THAT IS DONE

Many commercial whitening products use the similar or the same ingredients.
The difference is in the device that holds the whitening gel during the procedure and the activation procedure itself:

  • using an UV lamp;
  • through a chemical process called oxygenation;
  • using a laser.

The frequency that the UV lamp uses activates the gel, but also heathens the pulp, which leads to hypersensitivity after treatment.
Also, the whitening gel while using a one-piece lamp (which covers the whole mouth cavity) is most concentrated on the front teeth (from 4 to 4) while it is most diluted on the back teeth. That leads to whitening only the front teeth while the effect on the back teeth is quite low.

Teeth’s whitening without using a lamp for gel activation (like the home whitening) is through the chemical process of oxygenation.

LASER TEETH WHITENING IN DENTAL ART

The laser whitening means activation of the gel with laser beams, which performs with pre-determined time of exposure of the laser beams on each tooth individually – completely avoiding the risk of over/under exposure of the activated gel – thus making the laser whitening the safest method. The gel activation is performed faster that significantly decreases the duration of the complete whitening treatment.

The laser that we use in our office provides whitening on each tooth individually, meaning your teeth will be equally white – up to 4 shades, regardless they are front or back teeth.

HOW TO PROLONG THE WHITENING EFFECT AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Commonly, the results stay for 6 months up to 2 years, depending on your diet and how much your teeth are susceptible to staining and tanning. If your teeth have significantly darker shades, one session of teeth whitening won’t be enough to reach the effect of ‘Hollywood white smile’. In that case, the doctors in Dental Art will explain how to reach that effect as soon as possible.
However, with the proper oral care and compliance to the given advises you can prolong that effect.

In Dental Art you get tips for oral care after teeth whitening: food, beverage and hygiene. In addition, during the same visit we recommend:

  • Special paste for remineralization and rehydration of the teeth;
  • Paste for intensive care of whiten teeth for everyday use
    that we provide in our office, to prolong the effect.

HOME TEETH WHITENING

For the people that doesn’t want to be seated on the dental ‘hot’ chair and for those that want to constantly increase the whiteness and freshness of their teeth we offer kits for home whitening that contain whitening gel and molds to apply the gel in that we make individually for each patient in our dental laboratory.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO WHITEN YOUR TEETH

  • Start with healthy teeth

Teeth’s whitening is impossible if you have gum inflammation, unbound roots, caries, chipped teeth, withdrawn gums, dental tartar or other untreated conditions. It can only contribute for the occurrence of additional pain and problems.

  • Crowns and veneers can’t be whiten

When crowns and veneers are placed, they are crafted that way so their color can’t be changed but will match the color of the surrounding teeth. Crowns and veneers don’t stain or tan, nor can they be whitened. If you have desire for your prosthetic restoration to be whiter, whitening (if possible) can be done on the surrounding teeth before the prosthetic restoration is placed.
